The other day
When love abandoned us
Scurried as a frightened bird from its cradle
Clamouring through the thicket
Aggrieved
We were emptied as that perfect nest
Remaining
Useless with it’s little hoard of possibilities
Cold as those fragile eggs
Unborn
Dead in a hard shell
I am everything and nothing
you can imagine
and if you could then that would sadden me
and scare me half
to death
as though we might know
what it is to be a bird
as though we might ever understand
what being human
is
what our flight
might
entail
